Future Fire is two pieces created for Insomniac’s inaugural Forever Midnight New Year’s Eve festival in December 2023. The challenge: create a warming sculpture that evokes the theme of “desert future.” The result was two designs, of which we created three each.
The Age of Man is an abstract Grandfather Clock made from corten steel and stainless steel. The face of the clock is hollow and on fire, and the stainless steel forms an “hour hand” and “minute hand” which are both pointing at 12:00, a subtle nod to the event’s name “forever midnight.”
The Split Crystal is an all-stainless crystal that has been cleaved in half. Inspired by several works of science fiction, the split crystal also features two differently-sized “hands” that point to 12:00, again alluding to the event’s name, with a flame effect in between them.
